Chi's Sweet Home

These books are fun little breaks from heavier reading. Read it in one evening after listening to an audiobook about rabies. Ideal for cat owners or anyone considering getting a kitten/cat.

I have a feeling volume 3 might include an official meet. Chi's owners move to a new apartment that allows pets. This second volume revolves around Chi meeting neighboring pets, animals in the park and so on.

The crisp panels containing soft, expressive watercolors are still stunning. The simplicity of the storytelling remains satisfying. My only complaint is the inconsistent and unnecessary use of baby talk for Chi's thought speech. "W" is sometimes used in place of "l" or "r" ("What a bwast!" "Twaitor!") and sometimes inserted in places that make no phonetic sense ("I'm spwent" for "I'm spent"). I wish the author or translator would drop the distracting baby talk and let the wonderfully expressive character design speak for itself.

I am eager to see more of Blackie and Cocchi, and possibly more dog shenanigans as well. Kitten capers dealing with a house move, new neighbors and trips to the park. It was interesting to get glimpses of Chi’s cat mama in this one as well. I feel like the anxiety cats experience upon moving to a new place was portrayed accurately. I really liked meeting all the new characters and seeing Chi interact with them. To see what your friends thought of this book, please sign up.

Separated from the warmth and protection of her mother, feels distraught. Overcome with loneliness she breaks into tears in a large urban park meadow., when she is suddenly rescued by a young boy named Yohei and his mother. The kitty is then quickly and quietly whisked away into the warm and inviting Yamada family apartment...where pets are strictly not permitted. Chi then has a splendid time living with her new family, learning about different things and meeting new people and animals. The second volume of the complete series picks up right where the first leaves off, with the Yamada family moving to a new apartment. This one is every bit as delightful as the first, with the addition of several new animal characters as Chi gets to know the pets in this new building.

Yamada family

The manga has been licensed for North American distribution by Vertical Inc. An anime adaptation lasting two seasons aired from March 2008 to September 2009. A 3DCG anime television adaptation lasting two seasons aired from October 2016 to September 2018. I also really liked getting to reunite with old friends while also meeting new characters. I love Blackie so much, and I'm glad that he's back.

Seeing Chi's reactions to receiving food, playing, meeting the other cat and hearing her thoughts on her experiences with the humans is not only unique, but is also hilarious! I really felt like the author was spot on with Chi's reactions to certain situations and to the family members. My favorite thing about the story is the journey to the eventual reunion between Chi and her family. Chi finally met her auntie/mother's friend, and we even got to see her mother for ourselves. I had a bad feeling while reading the last book that something would have happened to Chi's mother before the two could reunite, but now I'm not worried about that anymore. I do feel a bit conflicted about the whole situation because I want Chi to stay with the Yamadas, but I also want her to be with her family.

Even though in this instalment, the introduction of a new cat was actually kinda scary; the way that cat was drawn freaked me tf out. She went to Futaba-Kōtō Academy in Suwa, Nagano Perfecture. Her first published manga as a profesional manga-ka was the short story Puchi Neko Jamu Jamu in Nakayoshi Manga Magazine in 1982. The magazine is a part of Kodansha Publishing, in which she published her works ever since her first debut. I stand by what I said earlier, this is the peak of literature. No book is as good as this and none will ever be.

Other books in the series

Everyone's attention is on this new big and tough looking gray cat who has damaged property and is stealing fish. As Chi tries to defend her home from this intruder, she will soon find out whether this other feline is friend or foe. I know this is quite a "silly" comic but reading this series always brings me so much joy.

chi's sweet home part 2

This time, Chi finds another cat; about the same size and age and the two become friends . Beautifully illustrated and simplistically amazing. Chi is a mischievous newborn kitten who, while on a leisurely stroll with her family, finds herself lost.
